Bring public transport under local control; establish common fare and ticketing system that all bus and train operators are required to become part of; introduce Oyster Card/contactless as the prime way to pay for local public transport
This is a great idea, but shouldn't it be wider reaching? Transport for East Sussex, or even Transport for South East? This could potentially open up more routes and enable better coordination between operators.

We are never going to get people out of cars and onto buses (me included) until the bus routes make sense. I still don't understand them after 10 years. Technology needs to be applied to all the routes so passengers know where their bus is at any one time and what time it will arrive at the stop. Plus Eastbourne buses are at present run for profit and not for passengers. That has got to change.
This would make public transport easier to use and better value for money; for example, a bus day fare would cover both Stagecoach as well as Brighton & Hove Buses; overpriced single tickets could be stamped out. A single bus journey in Eastbourne costs £2.90 at present (with Stagecoach); in London £1.50 (with any bus operator) - almost 50% cheaper.
